The Department of History at Columbia University invites applications for a tenured position as the Richard W. Bulliet Chair of Islamic History. The Department is seeking an historian of the classical and medieval periods. We have a particular interest in an historian of the society, politics, and culture of the Middle East and North Africa. Candidates must have an eminent record of publication, teaching, and research. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of tenured associate professor or tenured full professor in the Department of History.

The deadline for applications is September 30, 2016.

All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position.

Ph.D. and record of excellence in scholarship and teaching required of all candidates. Candidates for tenured associate professor should possess a demonstrated record of professional achievement and show great promise of attaining distinction. Candidates for tenured full professor should be widely recognized for their distinction and professional accomplishment.
