La Universidad de Uppsala, Suecia, ofrece dos puestos para realizar un doctorado en lenguas semíticas, a desarrollar en el departamento de lingüística y filología de dicha institución.
Estas ofertas tienen una duración de 4 años, en los cuales el alumno recibirá un salario como empleado del departament. Se espera que los estudiantes trabajen a jornada completa en su trabajo de investigación y contribuyan al desarrollo de las actividades departamentales. Además, un 20% de su tiempo deberá dedicarlo a la enseñanza y tareas administrativas.

Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Research and teaching at the Department of linguistics and philology covers approx. twenty different languages and linguistic subjects as well as computational linguistics. These include many of the important languages and cultures in the Middle East, to which can be added Hindi, Swahili, Chinese, Ancient Greek and Latin. Comparative Indo-European linguistics and general linguistics are also part of the department.
Doctoral studies extend over a 4-year period during which the PhD-student will receive a salary as an employee of the department. Doctoral students are expected to engage in full-time study and research, and contribute to and participate in the department’s activities. Teaching and/or administrative tasks may be involved up to a maximum of 20%.
Project:
The field of Semitic languages at Uppsala University includes research and teaching in primarily Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic/Syriac and Assyriology, as well as in Comparative Semitics.
The dissertation project should fall within the areas of expertise available at the department, in particular Semitic linguistics. It is intended that at least one project will involve documentation of a living Semitic variety.
The primary criteria for selection will be the quality of the proposed project and the applicant’s fitness to carry it out.
Qualifications:
To qualify, a candidate should hold a master’s degree in Semitic languages or equivalent. The candidate is expected to have reading abilities in other languages in order to be able to read secondary literature of relevance to the proposed research project.

Applications should include a letter in which the applicant describes him- or herself, as well as a research plan of 3-5 pages. The application should contain a CV, copies of degree certificates, a master’s thesis or other academic work and any other documents that the applicant wishes to submit. Interviews may be used in the selection process.
